Make Your Own Nut Milk In 7 Easy Steps!

If you're like millions of people in this world, you have some sort of lactose allergy, some more severe than others. But hey, that's never stopped many of us  from eating and drinking it right? Bring on the stomach ache, gas and bloating... Yea sure. No thanks love, enjoy!

For those of us who are looking for a stomach-friendlier and healthier alternative to dairy milk, there are so many resources out there that tell you just about everything you need to know about nuts, seeds and their benefits! Nut milks, or 'mylk' if you wanna get fancy, are natural so they're free of gross preservatives and ingredients that do not help your already sensitive stomach. If you're like me, you're lactose intolerant and don't really like the dairy-free milks in stores. That's how I started making my own milk and I never turned back. It takes no more than 10 minutes! Trust me when I say you won't want to buy your milks in a store ever again!

Going dairy-free is not as hard as you might think. You can make milk from so many different types of nuts and seeds like pecans, coconut, hemp seeds, cashews and sunflower seeds... just to name a few! But, my favorite one is almond milk! The ingredients are super easy to find in any grocery store. 

Almonds are a GREAT source of Vitamin E, magnesium, copper, fiber, antioxidants. AND, if you're trying to lose weight, these can definitely assist you thanks to its dietary fiber and healthy fats.

Here's what you need:

  • Raw almonds
  • Filtered Water
  • Vanilla essence
  • Salt
  • Pure maple syrup (optional)
  • Nut milk bag/ Cheesecloth 

Let's get started!

  1. Soak 1 cup of almonds in water with  a tsp of salt overnight. (You can soak it for two nights for extra creaminess)
  2. Rinse off the soaked almonds thoroughly.
  3. Add 1 cup of almonds and 3 ¾ cups of filtered water to your blender
  4. Add a dash of salt , a capful of vanilla essence and 1 tbsp  of pure maple syrup or any other natural sweetener
  5. Blend on high for 2 minutes
  6. Pour the mixture into nut mylk bag or cheesecloth with your bowl underneath and squeeze out all the liquid until you only have the pulp left over. You can save the pulp and treat it as flour!
  7. Pour your almond mylk into your mason jar or whatever container you have
  8. Enjoy!


  • When buying the nuts, make sure they are 100% raw and of high quality.
  • Drink the mylk within a week because it will go bad since no preservatives are added.
  • Don’t worry if your almond mylk separates. Just shake the bottle and you’re good to go!
